Linda asks…
What will happen when we run out of oil? (alternative energy)?
I am doing a report on alternative energy…….if you have any info on slar energy, hydroelectricity, geothermal energy, or tidal energy, it would be much appriecieted!!! im looking for websites, or online articles. i need to know how its gathered, if its renewable, posotive aspects to this energy source, negative a spects, primary uses of this energy source, is it more available in other parts of the world that others, is this energy source economical copared to fossil fuels, what impact it has on the enviroment, and is it a good alternative to fossil fuel.
THANK YOU!!!

The Expert answers:
Well, i won’t do your homework for you, but i’ll answer your initial question.
When we run out of oil, the government will finally start taking serious steps toward changing our dependency on it. Rather than spend millions at war we should be spending money on research for alternative fuel sources. =)

Sandy asks…
Would the fact Mr. Obama has agreed to make modest changes in his proposed tax cuts (Cont’d)?
Would the fact that Mr. Obama has agreed to make modest changes in his proposed tax cuts be indicative of more rifts between he and the democrats?
If they can’t agree now, and he’s not even been sworn in yet, how in the world can he keep the promises he made to the American people?
WASHINGTON – Pushed by fellow Democrats, President-elect Barack Obama agreed to modest changes in his proposed tax cuts on Friday after inviting lawmakers to “just show me” ideas for fixing an economy shedding jobs at an alarming rate. Democratic congressional officials said that Obama aides came under pressure in closed-door talks to jettison or significantly alter a proposed tax credit for creating jobs.
Further, Democrats sought inclusion of relief for upper middle-class families hit by the alternative minimum tax. The so-called AMT was originally designed to make sure the very wealthy did not escape taxes, but it now hits many more people because of inflation, despite measures by Congress every year to prevent it from reaching tens of millions of middle-income families.
Congressional officials said aides to the president-elect had agreed to increase the $10 billion originally ticketed for energy tax breaks, although the final total remained unclear. Two officials said at least $20 billion would be reserved, but others indicated it could go higher.
Details were not available, but Obama has spoken in the past about increasing tax breaks for production of alternative energy sources such as wind power. The energy tax provisions make up a small part of a massive economic stimulus bill — expected to reach over $800 billion over two years — that congressional leaders hope to pass before mid-February.
With more than 11 million Americans out of work, Obama pressed Congress for urgent action and said the U.S. is undergoing “a devastating economic crisis that will become more difficult to contain with time.” His warning was underscored by a government report showing that unemployment hit a 16-year high of 7.2 percent in December.
But congressional Democrats are making it clear they want to put their own stamp on the revival plan, despite the inevitable delays. Some Obama ideas, like a $3,000 job creation tax credit, might get scrapped.
Many Democrats aren’t thrilled with Obama’s business tax cut plans and are griping that there’s not enough money in the measure for traditional infrastructure projects like road construction and water projects or for tax credits to promote renewable energy.
Beyond the emerging rifts — and the openness with which Democrats are pushing back against some of Obama’s ideas — is the sheer enormity of crafting such a complex, controversial measure in just weeks. Lawmakers’ insistence on making changes could delay the recovery plan beyond a mid-February deadline declared by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

The Expert answers:
Yes….
But I’d rather discuss something even MORE basic, let’s talk taxes on a level that a fifth grader can understand…
If the economy is BAD, and the president, congress…It doesn’t matter WHO wants to CUT taxes to STIMULATE the economy….The FACT is, ANYONE wanting to CUT taxes to STIMULATE the economy is working on the (correct) ASSUMPTION that it WILL WORK, and in a free market economy, people who MAKE more money SPEND more money…AND they should be able to KEEP what they have earned…
Instead of the government taking their (my) money AWAY from those who have earned it and giving it to those who have NOT earned it….(social programs).
The MORE the government TAXES, the LESS money is LEFT in the private sector….JUST BY ADMITTING that CUTTING TAXES DOES STIMULATE THE ECONOMY, THEY HAVE ADMITTED THE INVERSE….THE MORE THEY TAX, THE MORE IT HURTS THE ECONOMY….
IS THIS A REVOLUTION FOR THE DEMOCRATIC (party) MINDSET?
IF SO, I’D SAY ABOUT TIME. Then all we need is to get Democrats to admit that unborn babies are human and God belongs in public…I could VOTE Democrat….
I’m not holding my breath on ANYTHING that the new President and Congress do or don’t do, and if ANYONE thinks that all is peaceful between the Democrats, you ARE more naive than a sixth grader….And definitely NOT smarter than a fifth grader.

Donald asks…
Do you really understand Obama and Coal?
****Obama’s stance on coal power will NOT put coal workers out of work, at least not during his term.****
The first thing you should understand is what is being taxed, and where the revenues will go. What’s being taxed are the pollutants being emitted by the coal power plant, and the revenues go towards developing clean energy. This can be looked at as the plant buying the right to pollute, and it accomplishes two things:
1) The plant will be VERY encouraged to be as “clean” as possible. In a capitalist society, the way to motivate someone to take action is by making inaction unbearably expensive
2) The funding for development of clean, alternative energy will be coming from those developing cheap, dirty energy (coal)!
The USA gets the vast majority of its electrical energy from coal power. This is *THE* dirtiest available energy source today. “Clean coal” is still much much much dirtier than any other alternatives (oil power, natural gas, renewable energy, wind, nuclear power, geothermal, hydroelectric, etc….).
Our country is so dependent on coal, that even forcing plants to directly feel the repercussions of their impact on the environment will keep the blue collar workers in their jobs. The cost will be passed onto consumers, who will, in essence be paying extra to develop clean power (this is NECESSARY).

The Expert answers:
This is what I think. This is a big talking point today. However, McCain and Obama are on the same page on “Cap and Trade” and have said pretty much the same things about it, this shouldn’t be a deciding factor for anyone’s voting decision.
This distortion of Obamba’s poistion is an obvious ploy to scare coal workers in PA and Ohio. McCain already has WV. Obama is still up on PA (all polls) and Ohio (most polls).
There are already plenty of Coal Burning plants. The Coal industry wouldn’t become bankrupt if no new COAL plants are built.
Nowhere did he say he wants to “bankrupt the coal industry” or that the coal industry will be bankrupted. He is that if someone tries to build a NEW coal burning plant, it wouldn’t be feasible economically, because of the cap and trade system (which McCain also supports) that’s what he was addressing the “go bankrupt” comment to.
The reality is NEW coal plants would be discouraged under cap and trade and nobody would go “Bankrupt” unless they were plain stupid.
PS I also think you answered your own question. You might get more answers and provide more enlightenment if you waited to see what people said before giving your answer.
PPS Then again, people like Aspot don’t even understand the question or your comments.

Ken asks…
Do you think that a resorce based economy will awaken humanity spiritually and allow us to become more?
liberated spiritually and creative and flourish more.
It’s useless to criticize the culture without providing alternatives. The Venus Project proposes plans for social change that work toward a peaceful and sustainable global civilization. It outlines an alternative social design where human rights are not just paper proclamations, but a way of life. The Venus Project has a vision of what the future can be if we apply what we already know to achieve a sustainable world civilization. It calls for a scientific redesign of our culture in which war, poverty, hunger, debt, and unnecessary human, suffering are viewed as not only avoidable, but unacceptable. Anything less will result in a disastrous continuation of the problems inherent in today’s world.
Simply stated, a resource-based economy focuses on resources rather than money, and provides an equitable distribution thereof in a humane and efficient manner. It is a system in which goods and services are available without the use of money, credit, barter, debt, or servitude.
The first objective is to eliminate scarcity. A resource-based economy overcomes scarcity by using renewable sources of energy, plus computerized automated manufacturing and inventory. It would design safe energy-efficient cities with advanced transportation systems, and would provide universal health care and more relevant education.
The aim of this new social design is to encourage an incentive system based on human and environmental concerns, and to avoid the shallow and self-centered goals of individual wealth, property, and power. These new incentives would help people evolve self-fulfillment and creativity, both materially and spiritually.

The Expert answers:
I think the liberated spirituality will naturally evolve a resource based economy. You can’t have change without a change of mind and heart first.
Every major revolution or shift in human evolution was preceded by a paradigm shift in thinking first.
