Sharon asks…
Why some americans are against global warming, renewable energy and immigration reform.?
Why some americans oppose to the same block of issues. I observed entire internet Macro Networks on the internet, chain of radio stations, some mayor tv corporations that opose systematically to Renewable Energy, Immigration Reform, Global Warming, Health Care for Everybody and the theory of ‘The Expanding Earth’.

The Expert answers:
When they prove that Global warming can be linked to man then and only then will I believe it. I’m not against renewable energy, I just want to be able to afford other things while it’s being developed. Immigration reform is also okay, Illegal aliens and amnesty is not. You want health care for everyone, then YOU pay for it, I don’t want to support you.

Robert asks…
Why aren’t there any subsidies to renewable energies?
If the government are willing to subsidize renewable energy then energy corporations will be motivated to implement them to combat climate change.

The Expert answers:
[Answer: Canada had a bill passed in 2005 (I believe) that would subsidize any company or business that was willing to invest in alternative renewable energies (nuclear energy was later added to the bill) in order for Canada to push for meeting their Kyoto Protocol aims by 2020.]

Lisa asks…
Dems taking oil profits for Renewable Energy? Theft? Socialist?
This goes against our Classified Energy Policy. Stealing and investing oil corporations money in their greatest enemy, renewable energy – is that socialism? I think this goes against everything Our President Bush stands for. Technological advances in renewable energy will only make it cost effective vs. oil and destroy oil companies and entire political power structures. Americans neither need nor deserve renewable energy, they should never be allowed to go off grid. Freedom isn’t free and off gird energy is too much freedom!

The Expert answers:
Wow, I like the way your mind short circuits.

George asks…
Renewable energy and misappropriation of US tax payer money?
Dear Mr. Vice President Biden
Why does the Obama administration waste US Tax Payers money on foreign companies. Specifically, please review
http://www.siliconrepublic.com/green-tech/item/17955-irish-energy-firm-riding
We have renewable technologies that President Obama and you refuse to support. Yet last night, President Obama indicated that he would not support foreign corporations and technologies at the expense of the American working citizen. UEK Corporation, based in Annapolis Maryland, www.uekus.com, a US tax paying company since 1981, has an underwater turbine that far exceeds the competition. The United States through the Department of Energy has given grant money to Open Hydro, and now this Irish company who are start ups companies – they are not proven technologies!
Personal letters about UEK Corporation technology were sent to you and President Obama, and absolutely zero has been done by either of your offices. Grants were applied by UEK and our beloved DOE refuses to recognize and grant money to UEK Corporation. UEK Corporation built and tested this turbine through own blood, sweat, and tears, and our wonderful government (DOE) gives start up money (millions of dollars) to companies that are foreign corporations. So UEK Corporation pays into the financial system or purse, creates a renewable technology for the last 30 years, applies for grant money and our government turns a blind eye.
Ladies and Gentlemen, UEK has had the technology for years, and our US Government still refuses to take care of it own. Now I ask you, why do you think this country has employment problems. The trickle down effect is this, our workers who are not employed, are not paying into the US purse when we hire foreign companies. I will define purse, Federal Taxes, State Taxes, Social Security etc… Then the US workers draw unemployment. It is trifecta of a financial misappropriation of US tax dollars.
1. US tax payer money used for a foreign corporation.
2. US financial purse is not replenished.
3. Americans workers stay unemployed and draw weekly unemployment checks.
With due respect, Secretary CHU needs to clean house in his Department.
UEK technology is proven, sites are approved by FERC, and our Government gives US tax dollars to the foreign corporations. Just brilliant! You wonder why this country is financially suffering? In closing, I thank you in advance for receiving my letter, and for all that you do.
Respectfully,
Jerry Lovy

The Expert answers:
I don’t think Joe reads YA.
You seem to have valid points though. I see that UEK has received funding from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources (DNREC) Green Energy Office though. Sometimes state money comes indirectly from the feds, but in this case I have no idea.

Sandy asks…
What does the ”ASA” in ”REC ASA” stand for?
I know that REC stands for Renewable Energy Corporation ( a norwegian company), but what does the ”ASA” stand for?

The Expert answers:
Allmennaksjeselskap. Stock company. Since 1996, all publicly traded Norwegian companies are now incorporated in this legal structure, but not all ASA’s are publicly traded.

Lizzie asks…
Why are so many conservatives against Global Warming or preservation/renewable energy?
I do not understand why so many conservatives or Right Wings are so skeptical of climate change. I know many industries, corporations, and politicians have monetary and political gains at stake but what do citizens have to benefit from denying global warming? Let’s just say the earth is in fact warming because it is going through its natural cycle…okay so is it still right that we pollute the earth with hazardous materials and emittents? What is so wrong about trying to use renewable energy and making an effort to preserve and conserve our natural resources. We aren’t saving the planet for the planet, we are really just trying to save ourselves. What’s so wrong about environmentalism? I just want to ask and get an honest opinion and please no fanatical theories or end of the world sh#$.
Like I said before no fanatical b.s. Obviously you morons can’t read and mac can take your techno-clubbing looking avatar and shove it up your own bum. I wanted truthful answers that explained it not misogynistic tirade. Back up your statements with facts not propaganda.
My question is why are the majority of conservatives against stringent environmental regulations, I never said all were. I know that hazardous materials aren’t the case of climate change but I am speaking about the conservative mind set on environmentalism in general.
New word for global warming is climate change. Doesn’t necessarily have to be warmer.

The Expert answers:
I’m not against renewable energy at all.
I do believe though that man made global warming is a hoax and a lot of scare tactics are used to get us to give into the idea that we have to let the government tax the life blood out of us in order to save the planet when the planet does not need saving.
Just look at the warming period of the middle ages. Grapes were grown in places in the north where it was impossible before the climate turned cooler again. Vikings were farming Greenland. Monks and historians recorded that the mountains of northern Turkey had the snow caps melted off of them because it was so warm for so many years.
Now we have been getting cooler since 1998 and do I sound like a denier because I question those that want to bring about all these changes in how we live and do things?
I think renewable energy can be a great thing. I do believe that our climate has cycled from warm to cold and back and we really have little to no control of it if we are honest.

Mandy asks…
Why is green energy referred to as alternative energy?
Wouldn’t it make more sense to call it “green,” “clean,” or “renewable” energy? Just what exactly is green energy an alternative to? Is it an alternative to global warming, dependency on fossil fuels, deforestation, depletion of the earth’s resources, extinction of several species, and acid rain? Is it an alternative to fighting wars over oil, oil lobbyists trying to run the show, and large corporations getting tax breaks and large subsidies? It doesn’t sound like an alternative to me; it sounds like a solution. What do you think?

The Expert answers:
It’s about market research. Green is the new buzz word. I’m sure there are marketing people polling to see which words catch the attention of the viewers. It’s a great generic term which can mean anything without offending anyone. If we say clean energy then people may say what about clean coal, which is still just a theory. If we say renewable that may make people think of huge turbines or solar panels and many still think these are too expensive or ugly. If you toss global warming or climate change into the conversation, many will just tune out or start a debate. So, “green” seems to be the safest choice for now.

Nancy asks…
So what’s the problem with sustainable/green energy?
I’ve never understood this ardent opposition to sustainable energy. Global warming/climate change or not, what exactly is the problem with sustainable energy. I can understand why people oppose higher fossil fuel taxes and carbon caps and all…it pisses me off too. But honestly, what would be the harm in offering people tax breaks for installing solar panels or a wind turbine on their property? Or offering tax breaks to energy corporations if they build a geothermal power plant or wind farm or something. I just don’t understand why anyone could be against sustainable energy sources. Is it because it’s always associated with liberals? I’m pretty conservative personally, but I think sustainable/renewable/green energy is a wonderful idea.

The Expert answers:
Load following. With the exception of small scale hydro, renewable energy sources are not available on demand, solar power flows when the sun shines, wind power flows when the wind blows, this may or may not be when you want the power. Batteries are extremely inefficient and expensive so we really didn’t make any head way till we had net metering where we can sell the power to the grid and buy it back when we need it. However this means that only a certain percentage of our power can be from alternative power sources, what we call base load and for every kilowatt of renewable energy we put on to the grid we have to have a kilowatt of on demand generation ability in case the renewable energy source doesn’t deliver. Unfortunately the on demand generation is usually the most expensive sources of energy, currently natural gas turbines and hydro are really the only ones that can load follow. Nuclear can’t load follow if it’s solid fuel nuclear due to the Xenon gas problem, if it’s a Liquid Flouride Thorium Reactor then it can load follow but the industry is almost entirely solid uranium fuel. Coal can’t load follow, it takes days to start up a coal plant. And of course wind and solar can’t load follow unless you can command the wind and sun. So the more wind and solar you tie to the grid, the more gas turbine plants you have to build. Keep in mind they don’t make any money off these gas turbine plants as the idea is to not use them plus they’re probably so expensive that the utilities will lose money if they turn them on.
